Episode 47 - Elementor's Blank Canvas Template

/

Pete submitted a question for the podcast, and its one we've seen asked a handful of times. So we thought we'd answer it for you in our latest episode.

Pete asked, "After learning about it on your podcast, I have really enjoyed using Elementor. The combination of design and functionality seems unmatched. Now they even have menu customization ability. Is there any negative to using an Elementor blank "canvas" on every page? If you do that, does the Theme even matter at that point?"

I got a question from a podcast subscriber, and I want to read it to you right now. This came in through email. If you want to ask a question for the podcast, go to imagely.com/podcast/q. Then you can submit your question. I will read it. If it's a question that I think will be valuable to the entire podcast community, to all the photographers using WordPress, then I will, of course, go ahead and record the answer.

Pete asked, "In relation to the plugin Elementor, is there any negative to using Elementor's blank Canvas on every page? If you do that, does the theme even matter at that point?" Now, Pete, that's a great, great question, because Elementor is the only page builder that I know of that actually gives you this feature to start with a blank slate. Now, I actually do not recommend doing this for every single page on your site, unless you really want to customize every single page on your site.

Now, here's the thing. The page builder Canvas from Elementor, the Canvas page template, will actually remove everything. You literally start with nothing but white, which means you need to add a header. You need to add a menu. You need to add a footer. You need to add content, a sidebar. Whatever else you're adding, you need to add it. You know again, if you're doing a landing page, this might be a great feature, but if you're doing just a regular page on your site or a blog post, you're not going to want to do it for that, not necessarily. Unless that's what you want.

My recommendation is to not use the Canvas page template, unless you absolutely need it to be used. Like I said, if you really, really, really want a site that is customized on every single page, and if you have the time to do that, please do it. But if you don't, I completely get it. Don't use that template unless you really need it. Again, thank you, Pete, for that question. That was a fantastic question. If you want to ask a question for the next episode of this podcast or a future episode of the podcast, go to imagely.com/podcast/q. Thanks for listening.
