Setting Up the Global Image Options

Image Options let you set rules that apply to all of your galleries. This guide shows you where to find them and what each option does.

Open the Image Options

1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Imagely > Settings.
2. Click Image Options in the settings menu.

Changes save on their own. You’ll see a Settings updated successfully! message after each change.

Path to galleries

This is the folder where Imagely creates new gallery folders and stores the image files. The default is wp-content/gallery/.

You can change it even if you already have galleries. Imagely does not move existing folders and files. Your current galleries keep working from where they are, and new galleries go to the new folder.

On a multisite network, site admins see this path but can’t edit it. Only a network super admin can change it.

Gallery Sorting

These two settings decide the order of images in your galleries.

Sort galleries by can be:

• Custom order
• Image ID
• Filename
• Alt/Title text
• Date/Time

Sort direction can be Ascending or Descending.

Choose Custom order if you want each gallery to keep the order you set by dragging images in that gallery. With any other choice, Imagely sorts every gallery the same way and ignores the drag order.

Thumbnail Settings

Default Thumbnail Dimensions sets the Width (pixels) and Height (pixels) Imagely uses when it creates thumbnails. The defaults are 240 by 160.

The Size List below it shows any default sizes saved for thumbnails and images.

Settings That Moved

Older versions of this screen also had options to delete image files with a gallery, resize images on upload, back up original images, and show related images on posts. These options are no longer on the Image Options screen. Imagely still uses them with these defaults:

• Delete image files: on. When you delete a gallery or remove images from one, Imagely also deletes the image files from your server.
• Automatically resize images after upload: on, to a maximum of 1800 by 1200 pixels at quality 100.
• Create backup of original images: on. Imagely keeps a copy of each original, so you can use Recover from Backup on an image in the gallery’s image list.
• Show Related Images on Posts?: off.
