How to Enable Image Protection

Do you want to stop visitors from downloading your images without permission?

Image Protection makes it harder for visitors to save your photos. It blocks right-clicking and dragging on your gallery images and in the Pro Lightbox. This is useful for public galleries, for photos you sell as digital downloads, and for large, high-resolution images.

No setting can make an image impossible to copy. Anyone can take a screenshot or look in the page source. A watermark is the best way to protect your work. It’s also a good idea to publish a copyright notice on your site (see Creative Commons).

Before you start, make sure you have the latest version of Imagely and an active license.

Turn On Image Protection

1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Imagely > Settings.
2. Click Image Protection in the settings menu.
3. In Protection Settings, turn on the Protect images switch.

The setting saves on its own. You’ll see a Settings updated successfully! message.

Disable the Right-Click Menu on the Whole Page (Optional)

After you turn on Protect images, a second switch appears: Disable right click menu completely.

• Off (default): the right-click menu is blocked only on your Imagely images. Visitors can still right-click text and links on the rest of the page.
• On: the right-click menu is blocked everywhere on pages that show a gallery.

If your galleries open in a lightbox other than the Pro Lightbox, such as Simple Lightbox, turn this switch on too. That makes sure the enlarged image in the lightbox is covered as well.

And that’s it! Your Imagely gallery images are now protected from right-click and drag-and-drop downloads.
